Laura Kost

English Teacher: English 9, DMCA English 9, Speech I

​MHS Activities: Freshman Class Council Adviser, Speech and Debate Team Coach, Interventions team member

​Originally from North Dakota, I moved to Raleigh in the fall of 2015. I enjoy reading, binge watching series on Netflix, listening to music, and spending time outdoors with my pup, Pepper.

Heather Youngbluth

Marketing

She received her B.S. Business Administration in Finance from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, Master's degree in Business and Marketing Education from North Carolina State University and Certificate of Advanced Study in Educational Administration from Canisius College in New York. 

Her teaching interests include instructional technology, learning management systems, training and development, course development and team leadership. 

Ms. Yungbluth resides with her family in Holly Springs, NC. In her free time, she travels and has recently visited the Caribbean, Europe and Asia. She also enjoys renovating old homes and making them new again.

Jan Johnson

Visual Arts 1 - Beginner

A rare breed -  Raleigh native! Before landing at Millbrook, she taught in high school and middle school until moving to VA to pursue a Master’s degree. While at VCU she was a project manager on an arts assessment grant based in Doha, Qatar, where she still teaches in the summer. Ms. Johnston’s favorite media are watercolor, batik and mixed media. She loves to travel, enjoys reggae, cupcakes, and sports (GO PACK! and GO RAMS!) and is very excited to be part of the DMCA faculty!

Lorraine Romano

Digital Media 1

I began my education career in 1990. I joined the faculty at Millbrook in 2011.  I love teaching in the DMCA because the students are really creative, self-motivated, cool, interesting and just generally fun to work with. My hobbies include reading, going to the movies, and travel. I am an NC State graduate (B.A. Communications-TV and Radio) and have a M.F.A in FIlm from UNC -Greensboro.  I am also a retired U.S. Navy veteran.

Catherine Cortright

English 10

I have been teaching for ten years. I spent seven years teaching in Alexandria, Virginia and I am now in my 3rd year at Millbrook. I have a son who is one and two dogs. My husband is also a teacher here at Millbrook. I love working with the DMCA because I get to see students think outside of the box and create amazing projects!

William Brown

American History 1

I am a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where I double-majored in History along with Peace, War and Defense.  I moved to Raleigh in 2017 after getting married that summer, and its at that point I began teaching at Millbrook.  Previously to this I had been teaching in Winston-Salem at my old highschool where I was also a lacrosse coach.

Johnathan Davis

Advanced Digital Media

I'm an Army Veteran. My son and I moved to Wake County in 2013 from Gates County, where I served as the Career and Technical Education Coordinator (IMC, SPC, CDC). 
I've been an educator for 23 years, and am licensed in Graphic Arts, Furniture and Cabinetmaking, and Digital Media. I spent my childhood in Boulder, Colorado.

Ms. Smith has a lifelong love of all things that motivate people to respond to their sensorial awareness of products, lifestyles, commitments to causes, and the elevation of their purpose through entrepreneurship, product creation, motivational speaking, life coaching and representation of lifestyle through endorsements, and licensing partnerships. Matching students to their purpose through personal branding (exploration), and strategic (path development) marketing is what makes Ms. Smith an innovative teacher.

I am a woman from many places; I grew up in Kingston, Jamaica before moving to Brooklyn, NY in 1985. Getting to graduate high school from Washington Irving High in New York set me on a path to Siena College in Albany where I earned my BA in Sociology. In 2002 I joined Wake County Public Schools, first as a substitute, then as a Teaching Assistant at Apex Middle School, before moving on as a lateral entry Special Education Teacher at Fuquay-Varina Middle School. I transitioned to Apex Middle and then to Apex High as a certified Special Education Teacher.
 
In 2011, I completed my Master's in School Administration at NC State University and served as an Assistant Principal at Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School from 2012 to 2017. Last names S-Z
